BE YOUR HERO- Empowering children for a brighter tomorrow!
Schools play an essential role in protecting children. Delivering child safeguarding education can be challenging and at The Winchester School, the Year 1 team left no stone unturned to achieve this. The educational video and training were designed to help empower children to keep safe. They were taught to recognize and to respond to potentially abusive situations, plus how to report abuse to someone who can help stop it. Every child felt they were strong enough to stand up against a threatening situation by realizing the power within- by being their hero. The children formulated their thoughts and spoke on how to stay safe, create posters, and write guidelines of staying safe. Children set free their creativity and critical thinking to arrive at solutions to be safe.

“ The World is round so that Peace may encircle it”
At The Winchester School, teaching about Peace is our priority as we know that this is the key to sustainable development that we wish to our nation and to the world in general. Hence, we believe that Peace and Values need to be taught from an early age, so that all children can grow up with a strong understanding of how to be peaceful from the beginning of their life. To celebrate this very important international day, we had an International Day of Peace on Thursday, 19th September 2019. Children shared their views and created their messages on peace. It was heartwarming to see their concern for Mother Earth where the Theme for 2019 is Climate Action for Peace. Through this our children got a chance to develop their critical thinking, creativity, cooperation and tolerance, which we believe are strong pillars of peace. “A parent is a teacher at home and a teacher is a parent in school and the child is the centre of our universe”. Welcoming parents to the new academic session, laid emphasis on the benefits of effective communication between parents and teachers. The school even sought support and suggestions from the parents to work as parent representatives during school hours. The orientation programme helped in evolving a common teaching strategy and helped the parents in identifying suitable follow up methods to reinforce the learning process of their children. The parents were invited look at the various open ended resources displayed that is used while teaching. It was a very exciting day. Children were welcomed by their respective teachers. They had different activities to start their day in class and get familiar with the new environment and new teachers. A school tour was arranged to make them familiar with important areas in school. All children were introduced to the SLT in the FS area. They had PE, Music and Library sessions which they thoroughly enjoyed.Children went happy back home on their first day to school.
